Hello there! I am licensed in New York and I am planning to attend school in Miami, Florida. I am just wondering if I should insure my vehicle in Florida or in New York?

If you will be staying in Florida temporarily, you may be able to keep your vehicle insured in the state of New York.

According to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles if you have a vehicle in the state of Florida for more than ninety days you need to buy personal injury protection and property damage liability coverage. So if you are a college student who will be attending school in Miami Florida, you will need to have these coverages. So I guess it would be cheaper if you just register and insure your car in the state of Florida since the state.

Generally insurance carriers will not allow auto insurance for FL registered car without getting FL drivers license. To get more information on how you can register a vehicle in the state of Florida, you may contact the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.
